We have FOREVER (well, at least for the past 8 years since I've been with Zach) gone through the dumpsters behind major, well known stores and looked for "treasures". I wish I had started documenting our finds a lot sooner, because we've had some good ones! Recently (the past 2 years) Zach has started "finding things in the desert". This isn't code for anything else. He really just drives his truck, through the desert and finds STUFF! So today I'm going to start showing you some of our treasures. I'm not worried about losing our cache of stuff. It's first come, first serve!
This was his find today. Two dishwasher springs (seen behind the lid of the beads on the right) that he took out of a dishwasher that was in the desert. Two cases of beads for the girls! We've already made fun necklaces and bracelets.

Two vases.
And the clincher.... our chicken coop! This was in the TRASH. Can you believe it? This will be where the hen laying boxes are, and some indoor coverage for those 5 days a year that it rains. It isn't going to be on our driveway of course. When the chicken run and coop are complete, I'll put an updated picture up!
We are living proof that "One man's trash is another man's treasure!"

Where do you go dumpster diving at??? I have found quite a few fun things in people's trash - I am a big fan :) How did your coupon thing go. I would love more info - email me at davidandamy99@gmail.com
Are you freaking kidding me? You guys are crazy. You need to update your blog with all of your "finds". Which stores are you going to?
If there is a dumpster behind the store, we go through it. Hard work pays off. The dumpster devils reward you, but you have to be persistent. PetCo, Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, Walker Furniture, Sports Authority, Michael's, Pier One. And don't sweat it if the guy with the golf cart starts chasing you. He can't ever catch you in that thing.
OK, so when we lived in NY my 95 yr. old friend told me she threw away her lottery ticket in the dumpster at her apartment complex. My kids and I dug in them for hours only to later have her tell us she found it in her pocket. No treasure in that stinky dumpster. Zach, were you with me?
This is why your family is one of my favorites!
