First Day Of School

First day of school: 2011

Not bad. Lincoln did great. He just goes with the flow. Reagan only had a few tears, but I walked her into her class and stayed for 15 minutes to let her calm her nerves.

But... after 4 days of craziness at a school with over 1100 kids....I wasn't thrilled. I felt the need to ask my principal if there was any chance we could switch the kids over to a much smaller school located 10 minutes away in a little town called Blue Diamond. He HAPPENS to be the principal there as well. Usually you have to have a zone variance, or sign up during open enrollment... but he understood my concerns and thought that the move was a possibility. The next day we were able to take a tour of the school and meet the teachers. Lincoln was excited and Reagan was (of course) nervous. But the class sizes were irresistable. 1 teacher and 1 aide for 16 kids (K-2nd). And in the other classroom (yeah... there are only 2 classrooms and they BOTH have windows) there are 16 kids (3rd-5th grade) with one teacher and 1 aide. They have a small library, art room, and music room. They have a "multi purpose room" which is where they eat lunch. To see the whole school took less than 10 minutes. The kids kept asking where "everything else was". It was cute.

So on Friday afternoon (only after being in school for 5 days) we all decided that the move would be good. So on Tuesday it was like the first day all over again ( I didn't get a picture). Reagan was MORE nervous because Lincoln wasn't going with her (He was still up in Utah hunting with Zach). Wednesday was better. Thursday even better. And by today.... they were set! Since there are only 32 kids in the whole school, they go to recess together and eat lunch together. Lincoln has really stepped up and been a great older brother. He sits by Reagan and helps her out. Another bonus for Reagan is that in the afternoon, all the kindergarteners leave... so there are only 9 kids in Reagan's class!!!

I'm hoping that the year goes smoothly... and that we can attend Blue Diamond next year... and then (fingers crossed) the next year our charter school should be up and running!

So all in all we are doing good! New routines are in progress. Bedtimes reevaluated. And a whole new set of craziness has set in.

That's great for you guys! And with Janet, you have someone to carpool with you out there! I'm glad your kids are loving it.
