You can pick your friends...

My Grandpa Stan used to have this silly saying " You can pick your friends. You can pick your nose. But you CAN'T pick your friends nose". Well, he never said anything about picking our kids noses. My entire life (all 28 years of it), as far back as I can remember, I have been a picker. I can't stand having anything in my nose, or having a scab on my arm, or wax in my ear. I would probably put myself in the obsessive compulsive category actually.

It has been HEAVEN on earth to have little kids to pick! From the time they were babies, I had my work cut out for me. Cradle cap, little boogies... it was all I could do not to pick their umbilical cords off before they fell off.

Anyway... tonight I was cleaning McKinley's ear lobes (putting antiseptic on her pierced ears), which naturally led to cleaning the inside of her ears. We look for "monkeys" in our house. A few years back my sister Rachelle swiped a nifty little ear cleaning tool from her E.N.T. It's a long skinny stick with a little tiny scooper on the end. It's made for wax removal... and I LOVE using it! McKinely has the most regular ear wax build up, and she is really great at standing super still so I don't puncture her ear drum or anything. Continuing on... I was just finishing up McKinley's ears when Lincoln walked in. YES!! Usually Lincoln has hardly ANY wax. I just use a Q-tip. So whenI looked in his left ear after swabbing it, I see what I think is a HUGE ball of wax! I check his other ear... NOPE. Nothing. So I return to his left ear and I can't believe how big this ball of wax is!

I run and get a flashlight (I want to make sure it isn't too deep) and when I shine it in his ear I couldn't believe what I saw!

A pea? A bean? A seed?

I don't know! You tell me! All I know is I pulled this sucker out my kids ear!!! How long had it been in there? Is that the reason he hasn't cleaned his room or he has a major delay in answering me? He couldn't hear me? Whenever I "pick" at Lincoln he usually squirms and screams. But tonight, he was so worried that we would have to go to the emergency room, that he was as still as a statue. Once it was out he couldn't wait to go and tell Zach. Zach didn't believe him, so he came into the bathroom to see for himself. He thought it was green wax and tried to smash it. It didn't give. He also concluded that it must be some sort of seed.

We asked Lincoln if he remembers putting it in his ear. Of course he doesn't. He has no idea how it got in there :)

So far that's been the most exciting part of our winter break. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

That happened once with Remington, only his was a popcorn kernel. He'd stuck it in his ear to hold on to it so he could throw it away later, but forgot about it. He had to go to an ENT specialist to get it removed... Crazy boy!

Hope things are going well! Miss you guys!

When your kids brought the pan to me tonight I asked what they want for Christmas. It went like this:
Lincoln "I want a pellett gun"
Reagan "I want a puppy"
Lincoln "I'm going to shoot your puppy with my pellett gun"

LOL!!
